Niagara Community Foundation and United Way Niagara have partnered with the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre to bring Uncharitable: the Movie to The Film House on Thursday, 28 May 2024 at 7 p.m.

APRIL 29, 2024 - This pay-what-you-can Community Screening is open to the public. Following the film, there will be a facilitated panel and Q&A to bring the lessons learned into practice here in Niagara.

This critical documentary examines the true needs and potential of the charitable sector and asks pointed questions about the world of philanthropy. On the movie’s website, it asks, “What if charity could be transformed from a gesture to an answer--to solving the world's greatest problems? What if everything we've been taught about charitable giving is wrong?”

“This is an important film for our donors, fundholders and community partners to see,” says NCF’s Executive Director Bryan Rose. “May is Leave a Legacy Month. As we encourage donors to reflect on their legacy, we also want to think critically about our lasting legacy here in Niagara. Empowering the charitable sector is a pillar of our work, but we want to ensure that we are not only providing the resources our charity partners need, but are challenging our donors to think about philanthropy in an equitable, sustainable and world-changing way.”

“This documentary reframes the way we think about charity, recognizing the power of the charitable sector to change the world,” says Chandra Hardeen, Director, Community Investment at United Way Niagara. “It is an inspiring take that encourages us all to think bigger, think bolder and commit to fostering lasting impact. As societal challenges grow in complexity, the film underscores the imperative of trusting and empowering our charitable sector partners to do what it takes.”

“We are proud to partner with our friends at Niagara Community Foundation and United Way Niagara to bring this important reflection about charitable giving to The Film House,” shares Sara Palmieri, Director of Programming and Marketing at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, “Both organizations provide vital supports for Niagara, and we are grateful for their stewardship.”

Following the community screening, there will be a panel discussion with Niagara’s charity experts to bring the conversation to the local level.

The Community Screening is open to anyone in the community. Tickets can be reserved/purchased from the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre website.
