The David S. Howes grants through Niagara Community Foundation (NCF) are so much more than a one-time cheque. These grants enable substantial changes that will have impact not only for today, but for years and decades to come.

With six priority areas, the David S. Howes grants provide registered charities with funding to make long-over-due facility repairs, to invest in innovative programming, and expand services to the most vulnerable in our community. In 2026, over $1 million was granted to sixteen charities through the David S. Howes Fund.

The recipients of the grants have incredible projects worth noting. From adding barrier free, pet-friendly shelter rooms at Birchway Niagara, to launching a social enterprise that will provide sustainable funding for Inclusion West Niagara, to investing in Niagara College’s Dental Clinic, doubling its service to the community, to a new kitchen for Westview Centre4Women; each project is forward thinking, ready to meet the changing needs of our community.

“Each year, we are impressed with the incredible projects put forward by our charitable partners,” says Bryan Rose, Executive Director with NCF. “This year was no different. The projects funded by the David S. Howes Fund are not only thinking about the needs of today, but are anticipating the growth of tomorrow. It is our privilege to continue David’s legacy through this grant stream and partner with Niagara charities to make an impact for generations to come.”

The David S. Howes Fund was established in 2017 with one of Niagara’s largest donations to date, of $19 million from the David S. Howes Foundation. This fund supports six priority areas including post-secondary, health-care services, education, facilities, research, and humanitarian issues. A full listing of the 2026 David S. Howes grants can be found below.

In addition, this spring 21 organizations received Summer Camp Grants. $37,400 was granted, supporting 397 children to attend Summer Camp.

Established in 2000, Niagara Community Foundation has raised over $100 million and has granted in excess of $41 million to charities working in the arts, heritage, environment, social services, health, education and community development sectors. NCF connects donor to causes and communities to resources, turning intent into impact.
